About Careers and Student Enterprise (CaSE)
This role is based in the Careers and Student Enterprise team, which is the career and employability nucleus of the University of East London. The goal of the team is to support every student to achieve career success, gain the skills for the 21st-century workforce, and build direct pathways to employment. The team’s mindset is built on innovation and creativity. To improve progression, retention, and graduate outcomes, the team utilises cutting-edge technology and research, which has shown an impact on our students’ satisfaction, behavior, and outcomes. This is a one-of-a-kind department with highly motivated staff and a high level of quality within the products produced.
About the Job
We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Career Consultant to join our Careers & Student Enterprise (CaSE) team, supporting students and graduates within the School of Arts & Creative Industries. You’ll play a key role in delivering personalised career guidance, sector-specific employability learning, and impactful support to enhance graduate outcomes.
The successful post holder will work closely with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders, developing relationships and partnership with colleagues within CaSE and Academic Schools. Career Consultant will plan, develop, and deliver agreed institutional objectives to a high standard and specifically supporting Graduate Outcomes.
They will work closely with internal colleagues, employers and external professional bodies including AGCAS and ISE to research and keep up to date with relevant literature and policies. They will develop coherent coaching and development strategies to enable successful engagement with career opportunities, raise awareness of employment trends, current recruitment methods and employer requirements.
What You’ll Need to Thrive:
- A background in careers guidance, coaching, employability, or a related student support role, ideally within higher education or the creative industries.
- Knowledge of the graduate labour market, particularly in arts, design, media, and performance sectors, along with current recruitment and selection practices.
- Experience designing and delivering a range of career development activities, including 1:1 coaching, group workshops, and digital/online content.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including academic colleagues, employers, alumni, and professional bodies, contributing to curriculum-embedded and extra-curricular initiatives.
- A strong understanding of inclusive and student-centred practice, with the ability to support and engage students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
- Confident using digital tools and platforms to support delivery, track student engagement, and evaluate impact.
- A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute to service development in a fast-paced environment.
