Associate Professorship of Management Studies

University of Oxford - Said Business School

Location: Oxford
Salary: Internationally Competitive
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 21st July 2025
Closes: 8th September 2025
Job Ref: 181071

Saïd Business School and Pembroke College are recruiting an Associate Professor of Management Studies. At Oxford Saïd the rank of Associate Professor includes faculty that would elsewhere be considered of Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Therefore, the School welcomes applications from early career candidates (i.e., scholars who have recently completed or will very soon complete their PhD), postdoctoral researchers (i.e., scholars who are currently in a postdoc position in a business school), and tenure-track faculty members. The position is tenable from 1 September 2026 or at a different date by negotiation.

The position is associated with a tutorial fellowship at Pembroke College.

The post is part of the Organisation Studies group, which includes faculty in Management, Organisational Behaviour, and Organisation Studies. We are inviting applications from those with a background in Management Studies, broadly defined, who are committed to a programme of intellectually rigorous and relevant scholarship in management, management studies, organization studies or organisational behaviour that is publishable in top academic management journals. Oxford Saïd expects its faculty members to publish in the very best journals in business, which are considered to be those on the Financial Times academic journals list.

Members of the Organisation Studies group conduct research at the individual, organisational, industry, and field levels. Focal topics have recently included legitimacy and social evaluations, transformation leadership and change implementation, professionals’ career transitions, as well as workplace equity, diversity and inclusion. An important focus of the group is leadership and its challenges: managing competing expectations and goals, mental health in leadership roles, and the distinctive obstacles and opportunities for women in leadership. Group members also study the emotional aspects of work and organisations, and processes of individual and organisational resilience and growth.

The group’s research has traditionally primarily relied on qualitative methods, with particular strengths in narrative and a variety of ethnographic methods. It is building increasing capacity in experimental and other quantitative methods, mirroring broader efforts across the School. Research sites are diverse and include professional service firms, multinational corporations, healthcare organisations, and hybrid, mission driven organisations.

In terms of teaching, you will be expected to contribute to the School’s undergraduate, graduate and executive programmes with a particular focus on the MBA and Executive MBA programmes and the group’s core courses in organisational behaviour, leadership and management. Teaching experience in negotiations, high-performance teamwork and transformation leadership is desirable.
