ABOUT SCI

The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), a registered charity, is an international forum where science meets business. Established in 1881 SCI’s main charitable objective is to accelerate science out of the laboratory to address the key societal challenges facing society today. SCI does this by facilitating open innovation, identifying and promoting emerging technologies in the areas of climate and planet and health and wellness, and by providing support for the next generation of scientists and engineers.

SCI runs over 60 conferences and events each year and has a range of publishing and award activities. Today, SCI has members in over 70 countries and with over 900 companies and many academic institutions represented in our network.

THE ROLE:

JSFA Reports is a peer-reviewed, Gold Open Access journal published by SCI, a not-for-profit, offering a platform for sound science in the fields of Food Science and Agriculture. Originally set up as a cascade outlet for Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, JSFA Reports is gaining momentum through direct submissions, reflecting growing interest and relevance.

To support the efficient handling of manuscripts during a transitional period, we’re seeking at least two (2) interim Editors to oversee peer review and make editorial decisions. This role is essential to maintaining the quality and integrity of the journal as we scale up editorial capacity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess completed peer review reports and revised manuscripts
  • Make clear, timely editorial decisions aligned with SCI’s publishing standards
  • Maintain ethical integrity and transparency across editorial processes
  • Work closely with internal SCI staff and Wiley’s publishing support team

Person Specifications:

  • PhD in Food Science, Agriculture, Chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Experience with peer review processes in academic publishing
  • Strong decision-making and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with editorial platform, ScholarOne (training can be provided if needed)
  • Commitment to SCI’s mission of advancing science for the benefit of society

Time Commitment & Remuneration

This is a flexible, part-time, interim role with potential for extention suitable for academics and professionals, who are seeking engagement with editorial work, even at early-career stage. Terms and honorarium to be discussed based on experience and availability.
