About the roles
The School of Education and Social Work is seeking to appoint two Assistant Professors in Education (0.5 FTE each) to contribute across our portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. This is expected to include relevant contributions to postgraduate courses including our MA in Education and MA in International Education and Development, as well as our new BA in Education, and our BA in Childhood and Youth. Relevant contributions may also be made across our wider teaching portfolio that also includes professional development and CPD for academics and for external partners.
Contributions will include convening, teaching and assessing existing modules, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues, with future anticipated responsibility for module design and development. The School is particularly interested in candidates who can offer expertise in teaching a combination of the following: quantitative research methods, decolonised approaches to education and inclusive and participatory practice with young people. The successful candidate will also have responsibility for academic advising and dissertation supervision of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
We are seeking someone who, in addition to having experience of teaching at higher education, is also interested and engaged in the developing and informing the wider scholarship of education and pedagogy.
About you
We are seeking someone who, in addition to having experience in teaching education at degree level, is also interested and engaged in research or scholarship in the fields of decolonising education and inclusive pedagogies.
Ideally, you will have a PhD or be close to completing one (pre-submission) relating to the field of education. You will have had experience of some teaching in higher education and be able to demonstrate evidence of effective teaching performance across a range of substantive teaching areas, including decolonising education, quantitative research methods and participatory practice. You will show you have the skills to manage your own workload and the ability to communicate clearly across different teams, with students, and other stakeholders.
We are particularly keen to appoint someone who can contribute to both our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has expertise in running participatory workshops in the fields of education and childhood and youth as well as expertise in quantitative research methodologies.
